Blog #2 - Tamara Chocoy

Assigning these presentations were definitely important. They were important to me because coming into this election I had no idea what key details I should be considering. After listening to all of my classmates I took away and learned some very important topics that should come into consideration when picking your vote. Since it was my first election being able to vote I definitely felt more prepared to vote. These presentations also took away my ignorance of not voting, it is a privilege to vote and if you have the opportunity you should definitely vote for you beliefs. Like what our professor said the whole time during this election season not voting makes you lose your rights to complain. Reflecting into this election the thing I learned the most was that every vote matters.      First thing I took into consideration was Immigration policies and what I should look into. I’ve become more aware of the historical impact of the immigration policie...

Gabriella Chavez blog #2

Our group explored U.S. immigration policies, delving into their history, present-day components, and broader impacts I learned about the vital role advocacy groups play in shaping immigration policy, from grassroots efforts to national lobbying. These organizations actively advocate for immigrant rights and work to balance security needs with human rights. We also analyzed current U.S. immigration policies, comparing the stances of political parties. Democrats generally support pathways to citizenship, family reunification, and humanitarian aid for refugees, whereas Republicans tend to focus on border security, stricter immigration controls, and employment verification. This contrast highlighted policymakers' complexities in addressing security and human rights issues. Reflecting on our presentation, I gained a deeper appreciation for the nuanced factors influencing immigration. From historical restrictions to modern-day reforms, our group’s insights underscored the cha...

This public speaking class focused on ever-relevant topics of U.S. elections through a group project, where each team was assigned a specific policy issue. My group focused on immigration policies, while other groups explored education policies, the electoral college, and gender equality. As I listened to the presentations, I realized just how much these topics are affiliated with the larger political standpoint, and how each policy impacts not just the election process but also the lives of everyday citizens. Through the immigration policy presentation, I gained a deeper understanding of the current debates surrounding border control, visa programs, and the pathway to citizenship. Our group had the chance to explore the moral, economic, and legal implications of immigration reform, an issue that has been at the forefront of national politics in recent years. The other groups’ presentations also broadened my perspective in equally valuable ways. The education policies group highlighted...

Emily Sanchez - Elections Matter

I just wanted to mention how much this class and the exercises we've done since the last blog have helped me. It's incredible how different I feel about myself when I'm about getting things done. Elections are important because they allow voters to express their ideas and shape the course of their country. They let people to be part Election Day representatives who share their views and priorities, influencing legislation on vital subjects like healthcare, education, and social justice. Participation in the political process is critical for a functioning democracy because it ensures that all opinions are heard and elected officials are held accountable for their actions. Participating in elections is more than a right; it is a responsibility that helps determine the future of our communities and country. Elections decide policies that affect everyday living, including healthcare, education, infrastructure, and social services. The conclusion could lead to major cha...
