Victoria Orono- Elections Matter

 I just want to start off by saying that this class and the activities we have done since last blog have been so helpful for me. It’s incredible the change I feel in myself when I am about to present. I even catch the changes in myself while preparing for a presentation or even doing research. I’ve developed my own personal tactic, it’s been flowing so fluently which brings me so much ease. Now, I want to start off with presenting and making known the importance of this upcoming election. The controversies are insane!!! It’s something never seen before. I don’t want to get too personal and probably biased, therefore, I’ll just supply you with this, now more than ever it is extremely important to vote. We are the new generation, we are the mass population that will be THE part of this world in a couple years. It is a vote for OUR future, our children, and our children’s children. So it is needless to say to do your research, educate yourself for your own betterment and if you’re selfless you’re peers, family, everyone in this country period. Like said before, there’s many controversies in this upcoming election, too many lies, too many bluffers, not enough prejudices that are facts with certain evidence. The Electoral Process has been changing throughout all the centuries of this country which is mind blowing by the way but just perfect how the group got their points across when it came to timelines, graphs, just information overall it was spectacular. It is very sacred and time consuming to go into little details about this but what is most important is that we have the choice NOW to decide what is best for our future, use your voices, act be, and learn to educate so others can make the best decisions for our country as well. Referring to our Public Speech outside in the stairs as well, we worked really good to get our point across and the overall message of this whole thing which is the importance of voting and truly why “Election Matters.” Education Plans are not being talked about as much because as of now everything seems to be going well. Universities are maintaining their high percentages all over the country, and we are seeing a lot of former highschool students wanting to further their education and keep going for their future the futures of their families, financial stability, housing, being able to buy houses at a young age is very smart, which can certainly lead to the realtor position. This group worked perfectly to get message through to the audience. They were incredible, they really outdid themselves and worked effortlessly to do nothing but impress every single one of us, sincerely me and my group were so amazed. We’ve talked so much about how much we’ve been loving this experience and just class in general it is truly a privilege to be a part of his amazing environment. Gender equality, was presented beautifully by the group in class. What shocked me the most about their information was that male NBA players get payed around 16 times more than what WNBA do. It’s insane!!!! Yes, it is understandable that the NBA itself gets way more view way more fame and way more sponsorship but why? Looking at some clips from the WNBA will honestly leave you speechless an as time has went on many of these topics have to progressed because as known it was way worse before, women could not even vote or work. I know we as a whole see the potential we have as a country, Making America great again is crucial. Let’s go to the beautiful, free and stable country we once had a hold of. Abortion ban or pro-choice is one of them, which seems to divide voters instantly. Mainly religious beliefs sets the choice you will be probably making, Christians like myself do not support pro-choice because it is more than known that we are no one to decide another’s life since murder is indeed a deadly sin listed in the bible. On the other hand, pro-choice means a woman should have the choice to control what happens with her body. In many cases, pregnancies caused by sexual abuses are used as an example, an unwanted baby should be considered in their opinion and it is somewhat understandable. The child will most likely not grow up with a present father, or in orphan homes which is never an ideal place for a child, but like said before pro-life voters usually just follow what their God has made known and untouchable and others just find it wrong, incredibly wrong. Former president Donald Trump is representing the Republican Party, supporting pro-life acts, movements and most importantly laws. The Democratic Party is being represented by vice-president Kamala Harris and she is obviously supporting pro-choice. Lastly, Immigration Policies which is the topic me and my group touched on. We were the first to pick because we automatically al identified with it. And it was very beautiful but really disturbing at the same time to do all this research and just hear both sides of the parties opinion, Me and Mia’s families opinions, the crimes being exploited because of all the new laws that have been presented to make it so much easier for immigrants to have very easy access to this country. It’s been chaos but hopefully we get to see nothing it better outcomes after the right candidate is in office.Overall, all presentations were really informative and really helpful to choose your candidate in this upcoming election. Like Professor Sherri’s husband stated, you lose your complaining rights after choosing to be ignorant and not voting whilst being able to.

Blog #2 Mia Meitin

This public speaking class focused on ever-relevant topics of U.S. elections through a group project, where each team was assigned a specific policy issue. My group focused on immigration policies, while other groups explored education policies, the electoral college, and gender equality. As I listened to the presentations, I realized just how much these topics are affiliated with the larger political standpoint, and how each policy impacts not just the election process but also the lives of everyday citizens. Through the immigration policy presentation, I gained a deeper understanding of the current debates surrounding border control, visa programs, and the pathway to citizenship.
